          Ron and Julie Warfel
        (Newest  Members)

Ron and Julie met at the Weis Market in Millersburg in 1978.  Ron was a stock boy working part-time while going to school.  Julie, her sister, Robin, and Julie’s son, Shawn did their grocery shopping at the Weis store.

Julie worked full time as an inspector assistant at Mandata Poultry outside of Mandata.  She was divorced from Shawn’s father and was raising Shawn with the help of her sister, Robin.  They had an apartment in Elizabethville.

Ron and Julie dated and were engaged on Christmas Eve, 1978.  They were married the next April 28, 1979 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Shawn was the ring bearer.  They have just celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary.

Julie and Ron’s youngest son, Scott was born August 31, 1980. The family lived in the Upper Dauphin area where Julie was a stay-at-home mom until Scott was school age and Shawn was 12 years old.

The family moved to Susquehanna Twp. when Julie started working for IBM in 1985.    She was employed there until April 2006, leaving shortly after her job was outsourced to Singapore.  Julie took the realtor classes and was a licensed real estate agent. She currently assists Ron in his real estate business.

Ron graduated from school and started working for IBM in Mechanicsburg in 1978.  He worked for IBM  18 years until IBM decided to vendor out jobs and instead of working in an unstable work environment, Ron left IBM and was hired at Blue Shield in Camp Hill as a programmer.

At the time, both Julie and Ron worked at IBM so they felt more secure  when Ron was able to find a new employer so quickly.  Ron worked at Blue Shield for a short time when he received a call from management at IBM, requesting his return and proposing a very attractive offer.  Ron returned to IBM as a consultant until his job was moved to another IBM facility.

Ron was given the option to relocate or receive money for career education if he declined the offer.  (The acronym for IBM is I’ve Been Moved)  Ron chose to stay and wanted to pursue a career in real estate. He submitted his resume to local companies while he was attending realtor classes.

Ron was offered and accepted a job with the Dept. of Defense at the New Cumberland Army Depot. He has been a consultant at the Depot for 7 years.  He is also a licensed Realtor and he intends to continue in the real estate business into his retirement.

Ron and Julie moved from Susquehanna Twp. to Wheatfield Estates after Scott’s high school graduation in 1999.  They have lived at 124 Barley Drive for the past 10 years.

Julie and Ron were members of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church outside Berrysburg and Elizabethville.

Heartfelt message from Julie and Ron:

Until recently, we have never felt the desire to transfer our membership to another church. We feel blessed to be a part of the Duncannon Presbyterian Church. Pastor Kris and all members have been so warm, and caring, and welcoming to us. We humble thank you all for accepting us into your church family.
